As part of the drive to beautify the capital of Cameroon, Yaounde, Government, after building a roundabout at the prefecture junction, now plans to restructure and redevelop the Djoungolo public square. The aim here is to give the area a greater facelift with a pioneering architectural design that mirrors the structures constructed there. Accordingly, the Government Delegate to the Yaounde City Council, Gilbert Tsimi Evouna, on 28 September 2009, issued an invitation for idea bids in order to select a modern and forward-looking sketch architectural design of the site. On 28 July 2010, the prize for the best idea bid was awarded to Emmanuel Moyo of the Leader Concept consultancy. The laureate’s sketch design and the designs of the two immediate runners-up will be exhibited at the City Council for one month to elicit possible remarks and suggestions from the public. The sites targeted for redevelopment include, inter alia: the prefecture junction, the General Delegation for National Security, the Cameroon Cultural Centre street, the surroundings of the African Intellectual property Organisation, and the Pharmacie provinciale. Works are expected to begin in 2011.
